The theme was trying to tell the readers that good rewards won't come out of being greedy and thinking that you and your friends are better than everyone else. 26. My favorite story from the readathon is, "Pandoras Box." The lesson that I learned from this story is that you should always listen no matter how much you want to do something. The theme in this story is, "Always stay loyal even if you want to do something." The reason I liked this story is when every object has come out of the box. There was a little bit of hope after all the bad.

  30. My favorite book was the king and the three thieves because the thieves had super powers in a way because one could see through walls one could sneeze a door down and the last one when he whistled he could put anyone to sleep. The theme was if you have something don't use it in a bad way.

  31. My favorite story was definitely "King Midas". I enjoyed this story because it taught me a lesson to not be greedy. My favorite part was the beginning when he first got his donkey ears. The theme of this story is to think about ALL of the things that can happen once you wish for something. Midas knew he would become very rich from all of the gold but when it was time to eat, or to give his child a hug, they turned to gold as well. I enjoyed reading this story because of the strong message that the author is trying to send us.

  32. My favorite was Clever Beatrice. I liked it because it was filled with tricks. The giant made a bet with Beatrice and didn't know how smart she was. The theme was don't judge a persons ability by what they look like.

  33. My favorite myth was the "Wooden Horse". The theme of this story is to never give up. The Greeks could have easily given up and when they took Helen but they went back from fighting to get her back.

  35. My favorite story was "Wooden horse." It was my favorite story because it was very exciting and it was very absorbing. The theme of this story is, when receiving something be careful because the unexpected may occur. This shows that the Soldiers of Troy just took it and thought the other soldiers left. But then, the unexpected occurred.

  36. I didn't really have a favorite myth, as they were all interesting, but I enjoyed the one when Loki cut off Thor's wife's hair, and had to repay them. He went to the land of the dwarfs(?) and challenged them to see who could make the better gifts for the gods. He said that if they could best one another, they could cut his head off - as long as they didn't harm any other part of his body. When he went back, the gods decided that a certain two dwarfs made better presents, and Loki was just about to get his head cut off when he reminded him that they could cut it off only if they didn't harm any other part of his body - and that included his neck! I think that the theme of this story is to outsmart and out plan your opponent, to come up with a clever trick, rather than bluntly charging them head-on.

  37. My favorite myth was the story called "King Mydas". I like this story because there was lots of action going on, like King Mydas had powers and positions which made this story much more interesting. I thought the theme of the story was be careful for what you wish for.

  38. My favorite story was when Heracles(Hercules)gets challenged by Hera and a king to do a bunch of "impossible" challenges. At the end it turns out the challenges were not "impossible" because Heracles did them all easily.I think the theme is to believe that everything is possible.

  41. My favorite myth is Hercules because to me it teaches that if you believe you have the strength to do it you can. Hercules was a son of Zeus so Hera hated him, and because he was so strong she made him do almost impossible deeds, he had to fight terrifying beasts and even take Cerberus to the king which gave him these challenges. Hercules believed he could do it so we could as well.

  42. My favorite myths are Clever Beatrice, The Rough-Face Girl. The Rough-Face Girl reminded me about Cinderella and how she had two mean, greedy sisters. The theme of this myth is to believe in your self and not worry what other people think about you. I know this because "The Rough-Faced Girl" had always been bullied by her two older sisters but, but at the end she had been the lucky one.

  43. I really liked The Devil's Three Golden Hairs.
It was a great story of trickery and Jack and the Beanstalk style thievery, though he was stealing advice instead of things like singing harps and gold.

  45. My favorite myths were the Cinderella stories. They really showed a new perspective on how these stories fit in other cultures. I enjoyed how unique and different each story was, yet they all had a similar theme. The main theme of these stories was that being kind can reward you in many ways.

  46. My favorite myth was "The Wooden Horse", because it showed that anything is possible if you think outside of the box, and to never get too cocky about something. It also showed that you should always consider other people's ideas, even if they seem unrealistic or false, they could easily be right.

    ReplyDelete
  47. My favorite myth was King Midas because it teaches a great lesson on greed and how greed can lead to dangerous things. The theme was money isn't everything, which means that there are more great things in the world than money.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I liked the Persephone and the pomegranite, because it taught to never give up hope. When Persephone ate the pomegranite she had deeply inside given up hope and by doing so she caused problems for herself. The theme of this story is never to give up and never stop fighting, because as soon as you do you have lost.

  49. My favorite myth is Paul Bunyan because it is very outlandish and isn't like all of the other myths and folklore. It's very recent in time, around the 1800s. The theme is that if you have an advantage over others, use it for good.

    ReplyDelete
  50. My favorite myth was The Shark God, because it was very interesting and it reminded me of the story of King Midas a little bit, because the king in the story was greedy and wouldn't let anyone touch his drum. The theme of the story, though, is that it pays to be kind, because the kids were so nice to the shark that when they were in danger, the shark god helped them.

  51. My favorite myth was Theseus and the Minotaur. The myth was about that every year 7 people were sent to be killed by the Minotaur. But Theseus was upset about this so he volunteered to be one of the seven people to be "killed" by the Minotaur. But the daughter of King Mino (the king of Crete) fell in love with Theseus so Ariadne (King Mino's daughter) gave Theseus a sword and ball of string so he could kill the minotaur and be able to find his way out of the labyrinth. (were the Minotaur was.) In the myth Theseus was able to kill the Minotaur and find his way back and he became a hero. I think the theme of this myth is no matter how tough the opponent there is always a way to win.

  52. My favorite books were the Cinderella Stories because I loved hearing the different versions throughout the world. All of them had slightly different themes revolving around the same story. One of themes was choose kindness over cruelty. Another was true beauty inside is worth more than the outside.

  53. I had three favorites! I couldn't decide between "The Wooden Horse", "Lord of the Cranes" and "The Boy who Lived with Seals". In "The Wooden Horse", I think it was an interesting tale of the cleverness of Odysseus and what ignorance leads. Though I've read it many times the story always fascinates me. In "Lord of the Cranes", a wise man known as lord of the cranes comes down from his home to check on humanity. In this Chinese tale he dresses as a beggar and recieves no attention. He goes to a man and begs for help. The man gives him help and becomes very wealthy from the man painting magical cranes on the wall of his inn. It shows charity will lead to success. In "The Boy who Lived with Seals", a boy from a native american tribe is lost in a river. He is found by his parents while he is basking on an island. He dreams of going back to the seals so his parents eventually have to let him go. It shows if you truly love something you have to let it free.

    ReplyDelete
  55. My favorite myth was probably Persephone and the Pomegranate because I really liked how when Persephone couldn't be found, her mother Demeter continued to look day and night. She turned everything into Winter because she was very angry. I think that the theme of this myth is to never give up, no matter what happens, or what gets in your way. Demeter finally found Persephone, and she was taken up out of the Underworld. Because she worked hard, she got her daughter back again.

    ReplyDelete
  57. My favorite story was “Mizilca”. It was my favorite because it shows girls can be smart and brave like many men and boys in other stories. Mizilca had to pretend to be a boy to go serve her king for a year and a day. She succeeded and no one found out she was a girl. If you had a broken bone and the option to fix it or the option to never get it fixed and have 1 million dollars. You can always make money with a job but if you had a broken leg and 1 million dollars you might not be able to do anything with it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. My favorite story was "Little Gold Star" because the different version of Cinderella was very creative and this Cinderella is not about if the shoe fits. I like how her sisters wanted a gold like her not Cinderella trying to be like them.

I like it because it shows that some people that you look up to in this case the people to the king is really greedy. 70. My favorite story was "Rapunzel" because I have heard a lot of versions before and and I really enjoyed this version because it was a little different than some of the other ones. The theme of this story is don't be selfish. I pick this theme because the evil lady only wanted the baby girl for herself because of what qualities she had and kept her away from everything when she got older.

  71. My favorite story from the Mythology/Folklore Read-A-Thon would be "The Rough Faced Girl" because it teaches us that power and nice clothes doesn't matter. A theme from this story would be it doesn't matter what people wear or dress, and that what you wear doesn't change who you are inside.

The theme is don't trust people you don't know no matter what they have like in this case candy and food.

  77. My favorite story was "Persephone and The Pomegranate." It was my favorite story because Demeter showed courage when she couldn't find her daughter. She searched for 9 days and 9 nights. She finally found someone that told her that someone had run off with a girl. Then she immediately thought Hades. She demanded that she had her daughter. Then right before she left from the underworld she had 4 pomegranate seeds so, each seed represents one winter month. The theme of the story is to not give up on anything like when Demeter kept looking for Persephone.

  78. My favorite folklore story from the Read A-Thon was the " Rough Faced Girl. " I loved this book because, It proves that It does not matter if you are rich or if you have a lot of beautiful accessories, being a kind and generous is the beauty inside and outside of you. This story was about a girl with a rough face. She has a rough face because she was in charge of the flame and her sisters would sometimes push her in and make mean comments. There is a invisable man and the only one who can see him is his sister and a girl who is truly worthy of his love. The sisters tried to win his heart with fancy dresses and colorful outfits, but before they can meet the man, they have to pass a test. They failed and was forced to go home. When the rough faced girl went to meet the man, she passed the test and saw what he looked like. her beauty restored and the "NOT" so invisible man and girl lived in happiness and peace.
